A National Digital System for Identifying Property Moves a Step Ahead

The Surveyor General of Pakistan and the Chairman of the Pakistan Digital Authority met for a landmark meeting to discuss the National Property Identification Framework, a unique property identification system, and shared geospatial standards for the country.

Major General Kamal Asfar, the Surveyor General of Pakistan, called on Dr. Sohail Munir, Chairman of the Pakistan Digital Authority, to discuss the development of a National Property Identification Framework and Geospatial Standards for Pakistan. Both sides recognised the need for a trusted, national way to identify property.

The meeting explored ongoing efforts to establish a Unique Property Identification (UPI) System to enable standardised, transparent, and digitally integrated property management nationwide. This will be a practical and much-needed change, as Pakistan moves away from files and ledgers towards consistent, transparent, and digital management of property records.

Other significant discussions included geospatial standardisation and digitisation of land administration systems. A pilot project in Islamabad will be built to the benchmarks set by the world’s leading digital governments, before any wider rollout.

Both sides are committed to creating a technology-driven, interoperable property ecosystem. Reliable and transparent digital property records are pivotal to the modern Pakistani economy.

This meeting was an important step in advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda under PDA’s mandate of National Data Governance and SGP’s mandate over Geospatial Data.
