Pakistan Digital Authority and Meta Discuss Digital Safety, AI, and Digital Public Infrastructure
The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) hosted representatives from Meta at its Headquarters to discuss areas of shared interest related to Pakistan's digital landscape, including Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), digital safety, AI, and digital literacy.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sohail Munir, Chairperson, Pakistan Digital Authority, and attended by Mr. Aamer Rana, Member, PDA; Dr. Sahibzada Ali Mahmud, Chief DPI Officer; and Mr. Rizwan Ahmed, Senior Office Coordinator.
The Meta delegation included Ms. Dania Mukhtar, Head of Public Policy (Pakistan); Ms. Wan Yi Lee, Associate General Counsel (South & Southeast Asia); Ms. Noor Bano Khan, Manager, Regulatory Compliance; Ms. Tehara Punchihewa, Associate Manager, South Asia Public Policy; and Ms. Vivian Liang, Policy Programs Manager, Safety & Integrity.
During the meeting, PDA presented its mandate and strategic priorities, including its work on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), with Digital Identity (Pak-ID), and other citizen-centric digital services. The Authority also shared updates on the National Data Governance Policy and Pakistan's evolving approach to AI policy.
The discussion included PDA's work on enabling the ecosystem for initiatives like the Digital Identity (Pak-ID), where the Authority outlined its policy role while noting NADRA's responsibility for implementation.
Meta shared information about its initiatives in Pakistan, including programs focused on digital safety, digital literacy, public health awareness, and the Small Business Growth Academy, which supports SMEs through digital tools and capacity building.
Both sides discussed potential areas of engagement including digital literacy, online safety, and emerging technologies.
The meeting concluded with mutual interest in continued dialogue on digital safety and AI through regular communication between the two organizations.
