Digital Sectoral Plan for Healthcare: Healthcare Facilities and Health Financing & Protection Workshop held in Peshawar
The Directorate General Health Services, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hosted a thematic session on Healthcare Facilities and Health Financing & Protection, held under the Digital Sectoral Plan for the Healthcare Sector — a joint initiative of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSR&C) and the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA).
The session brought together representatives from the federal and provincial governments, healthcare facilities, health financing and social protection programmes, development partners and private insurance firms to discuss a shared future-state vision for these interconnected domains.
Taimoor Shah , Chief Operating Officer of Shifa International Hospitals Limited and thematic champion for the session, highlighted that Pakistan has established a strong foundation for digital health through ongoing investments in hospital information systems. He emphasised that the next phase should prioritise interoperability, effective utilisation of digital systems, and the adoption of scalable technologies to strengthen health system performance.
Participants examined how digital technologies can strengthen healthcare delivery through integrated and interoperable systems. Discussions emphasised the need to improve health financing by enhancing access to data across social protection and private health insurance schemes. Participants highlighted the need to establish a digital citizen health profile that enables continuity of care and supports evidence-based decision-making.
The session forms part of a consultative process designed to ground the Digital Sectoral Plan for Healthcare in provincial realities, drawing on the experience of those delivering and financing care. The nationwide series of thematic workshops continues, with further sessions to be convened across the remaining domains.
